As we celebrate our most successful year to date, we thought we’d look back at some of the ‘Best of the Best’ moments that have shaped Showtime Event Group’s growth ahead of an even busier, fuller and more exciting 2020.

Best Gala Event

State Library Victoria – Opening of The Ian Potter Queen’s Hall

After 16 years of being closed to the public, and an ambitious restoration, Ian Potter Queen’s Hall opened with a red carpet, black-tie gala and was celebrated by Melbourne’s movers and shakers. Including no less than 5 past and current Victorian Premiere’s. The historic reading room will be a centre for visitors by day, housing the collection of Australian literature and the iconic chess collection, and by night will be Melbourne’s premier event space. – See the new space here, and how it was introduced to Melbourne’s who’s who.

Best Industry Event

MCB Hosted Buyers Welcome at the Timber Yard

The reimagined AIME launched to much success in the industry this year, but before the buyers entered the trade show they were hosted by the Melbourne Convention Bureau and Showtime Event Group at Melbourne’s newest venue, The Timber Yard. The converted warehouse was the perfect backdrop for an urban Melbourne showcase, with guests arriving by coach down a back alley, and into what looked like an abandoned warehouse – until it all came ‘alive’.

Best ‘Signature’ Event

Come From Away – Redmond Barry Reading Room

The Redmond Barry Reading Room had never been used as an event space before. So when Whole Nine Yards Group approached us seeking an original space for the Australian Premiere launch of ‘Come From Away’ we worked tirelessly with the State Library to ensure this event was one of the first. – See how we transformed a reading room into a stunning event space.

Best Charitable Event

White Lion Bail Out

Now in its 10th year supporting juvenile rehabilitation, White Lion held their signature Bail Out event at the Old Melbourne Gaol and Former City Watch House. Our staff loved playing dress up for the evening and serving the ‘inmates’ whilst raising awareness for White Lion. See how much fun we had at this interactive event.

Best Industry Collaboration

MCB Strategic Partnership

The Melbourne Convention Bureau celebrated its most successful year in 2019, and we couldn’t be prouder to be in a strategic partnership and part of ‘Team Melbourne’. We love the approach to positioning Melbourne as a destination for business events, something we did proudly on the stand at AIME, and again at Dreamtime. We are looking forward to continuing our great partnership in 2020.

Most Unique Wedding

Glenn and Liz – La Trobe Reading Room

This was an incredibly hard pick, especially when we hold over 140 weddings a year, but by a whisker, it had to be Glenn and Liz, who held the first wedding in La Trobe Reading Room in its 134 year history. A magical night in one of the most impressive venues in town.

Best Award

It’s a tie of ‘Back to Backs’ – MEA Award for Best Event Space without Accommodation (State Library) and the ABIA National Award Winner – Best Wedding Venue (Showtime Events Centre)

It was hard to split these two, especially when they both won back to back awards. State Library Victoria was awarded Best Venue without accommodation at the MEA State Awards, then going on to win the National Award.

Showtime Events Centre then continued its award winning run, taking home top gong at the National ABIA awards and being named for the second year running, ‘Best Wedding Venue in Australia’
